2027 is just around the corner and MAD is ready to hear your ideas for any 2027 MAD Production! We are changing how the proposals are called for this year. We are looking for calls for any comedy/stage plays, small cast musicals, variety shows, or children shows and will be deciding time frames based on proposals.
Comedy/Stage Plays or Small Cast Musicals: MAD wants your ideas to continue their stage play productions this year! Your submission can be any stage play or a small-cast musical. For example, last year MAD produced “Ken Ludwig’s Moon Over Buffalo” with a themed cabaret before each performance (the cabaret was proposed separately from the play).
Variety Shows or Workshops: In the past, MAD has done Variety Shows composed of short scenes from plays interspersed with songs or dances, woven into a variety showcase. There has also often included workshops leading up to the final performance, with the goal of training and participation rather than giving a highly polished performance. The theme can be anything you imagine and the submitter does not need to be the director of the show. You can apply to direct the acting part, the music part, or you can even apply to be the Show Director without a theme! But don’t be limited to just a variety act, if you’re interested in running an improv group or organizing a workshop, submit your idea!
Children’s Show: For the past 2 years, MAD has produced a children’s show that features younger kids to give
them a community theater experience in a shortened time frame. Your submission can be anything you’d envision
with the goal of keeping the production simple. Last year MAD produced a children’s play, “Rumpus in the
Rainforest,” with one 30 minute show, roughly 10 rehearsals, and a cast comprised entirely of children.
This year we will consider any proposed schedule – if you want to propose a variety show in the Winter or a stage
play in the Spring, please send us your ideas. Or you can leave the scheduling up to the selection committee.
Visit MAD’s production history page to peruse past years’ Winter/Spring/Summer shows for more ideas.
The submission should include the director’s name (if applicable), the director’s resume (if applicable), any
proposed staff that are already on board, and your vision for the show.
If you are interested in proposing/leading a production (or have questions on the process), please send an email
to keshavswaminathan@gmail.com NO LATER THAN TUESDAY, NOVEMBER 10 (11/10/2026).
